Major Admission Cycles

  • Winter Semester (October): The main intake. Applications usually run from April to July 15th.
  • Summer Semester (April): Secondary intake. Fewer courses available. Applications usually run from Oct to Jan 15th.
  • Uni-Assist: Most applications go through a centralized portal called "Uni-Assist." Processing takes 4-6 weeks, so apply early!

Work & Residence

Critical Requirements

  • APS Certificate: Mandatory for students from India, China, and Vietnam. It verifies your academic documents. You CANNOT apply for a visa without this.
  • Language: For English programs: IELTS 6.5. For German programs: TestDaF or DSH level. *Learning basic German (A1/A2) is highly recommended for daily life.*
  • 13 Years Education: German schooling is 13 years. Indian students (12 years) usually need a "Studienkolleg" (Foundation year) for Bachelor's, unless they clear JEE Advanced or have 1 year of university credit.

What is a "Blocked Account" (Sperrkonto)?
It is a mandatory bank account. You must deposit approx €11,208 before arriving. The bank allows you to withdraw a fixed monthly amount (approx €934) to cover rent and food. It proves you have money to survive.
Is education really 100% free?
Yes, at public universities in 15 out of 16 German states, there are no tuition fees for international students. You only pay a semester administrative fee (~€150-€350). *Note: The state of Baden-Württemberg charges €1,500/sem for non-EU students.*
Do I need to speak German?
For admission to English-taught Master's degrees? No. However, for part-time jobs, making friends, and grocery shopping, basic German (A1/A2) is extremely helpful. We recommend learning a little before you go!
