Major Admission Cycles

  • September Intake: The main start date for almost all programs. Application deadlines: April 1 (Non-EU) / May 1 (EU).
  • February Intake: Secondary intake, offered by fewer universities and programs. Deadlines usually around October/November.
  • Studielink: All applications to Dutch universities must start via the centralized government portal called "Studielink."

Work & Career

  • Orientation Year (Zoekjaar): After graduating, you get a 1-year visa to look for a job. During this year, you can work anywhere without employer sponsorship rules.
  • Part-Time Work: Non-EU students can work 16 hours per week OR full-time during the summer months (June-August). You need a work permit (TWV).
  • Highly Skilled Migrant: If you find a job earning above the threshold after your Orientation Year, you can switch to a Highly Skilled Migrant visa.

Entry Requirements

  • Academic: Research Universities (WO) usually require 12+1 or 12+2 years of education or IB Diplomas. Applied Sciences (HBO) accept standard 12th grade.
  • English: IELTS Academic (6.0 - 6.5) or TOEFL (80-90) is required. The Netherlands has high English standards.
  • No GRE/GMAT: Usually not required for Bachelor's. Some top Business/Econ Master's programs may ask for GMAT.

What is the difference between WO and HBO?
WO (Research Universities): Focus on theory and academic research. Moves faster. Prepares you for Master's/PhD.
HBO (Applied Sciences): Focus on practical skills and internships. Prepares you directly for the job market.
Is it hard to find housing?
Yes, there is a severe student housing shortage in the Netherlands. We strongly advise you to start looking for a room 3-4 months before your arrival. Do not wait until you get your visa!
Do I need to learn Dutch?
For studying and daily life (shops, transport), No. Everyone speaks English. However, for finding part-time jobs in service/cafes, or for long-term career prospects, learning basic Dutch helps immensely.
